What is a Living Lab?
The European Network of Living Labs (ENoLL) is a global network of open innovation ecosystems (Living Labs) that place people at the centre of product/service development and innovation. The network and its members provide innovation services for small and medium sized enterprises, multi-national companies, the public sector, organizations and community members. ENoLL promotes the development of business and industry, as well as the creation of tax revenue and jobs. Living Labs provide an end-user centred, open innovation ecosystem based on a systematic co-creation approach which includes academic researchers, industrial suppliers, market experts and other community members in the research and development process.
Over the years, the concept of open innovation has been progressively integrated into research and innovation policies. Many organizations worldwide, both public and private, have extensive knowledge of different methods, tools and expertise in user experience and user engagement techniques. As pioneers in this field, Living Labs have evolved to become global leaders as innovation orchestrators and matchmakers of different stakeholders at municipal, provincial, regional, national and international levels. This unique capability enables Living Labs to generate concrete, tangible innovation based on end-user and community contribution, and at the same time advance (academic) understanding of end-user open innovation practices and processes.
ENoLL has recognized nearly 400 Living Labs around the World maintained by municipalities, universities, regions and public or private companies who act as development, piloting and implementation partners. MFS Technologies Ltd, is a proud member of the Canadian based, C for Care Living Lab Ecosystem - utilizing the Living Lab spirit and methodology in executing our proprietary Concept 2 Launch Process for conceptualizing, designing, field-testing and integrating novel multi-functional nano and micro-scale coating materials, manufacturing additives and custom industrial chemicals.
